Partial payments on invoices
Last updated: July 29, 2026
Noto supports partial payments on invoices in two ways: an admin can collect a partial payment at any time, and you can also let the client make partial payments themselves from the public invoice link. After a partial payment, the invoice stays open for the remaining balance. It's fully paid once that balance reaches zero.
Admin-collected partial payments
Admins can apply a partial payment to any invoice, regardless of whether self-serve partial payments are enabled for that invoice.
Open the invoice and click Collect Payment.
Enter any amount up to the remaining balance. The fee and total update as you change the amount.
Choose the payment method to charge and submit the payment.
You can repeat this to collect further payments until the invoice is fully paid.

Letting the payer make partial payments
If you want the guardian or member to be able to pay part of an invoice themselves from the public payment link, enable partial payments on that invoice.
On the invoice, turn on the Allow partial payments checkbox. This option is available in both the Create Invoice dialog and the Edit Invoice form.
Share the invoice payment link as usual.
Once enabled, no further admin action is needed per payment.

What the payer sees
On the public invoice page, the payer sees a Payment amount field pre-filled with the full remaining balance. They can change this to any amount up to the balance and submit.

After a partial payment, the page shows the remaining balance and a Pay remaining balance button they can use to make another payment.
If Allow partial payments is not enabled, the public link requires the full amount.
Merging invoices
When you merge invoices, the merge dialog includes a partial payments option, so you can set the partial-payment behavior on the resulting merged invoice.
Common questions
Is there a minimum partial payment amount? Noto does not enforce a minimum beyond requiring the amount to be at or below the remaining balance.
How many partial payments can be made on one invoice? There is no set limit - the payer or admin can keep making partial payments until the balance reaches zero.
