Creating and editing campaigns

Campaigns in Noto let you send sequences of emails and texts to a defined group of members or leads. This article covers how to start a new campaign, build the sequence, target the right recipients, and configure the sender — all from the Campaigns page.
Texts in marketing campaigns are only available for organizations that are set up with Text & Voice. Information on how to get set up can be found here: 📄 Getting Started with Text & Voice.
Start a new campaign
You have a few ways to begin:
Use the AI campaign builder. This is the recommended starting point. It generates a first draft you can then adjust for branding, content, and tone.
Start from a recommended template. Noto offers pre-built templates. They are intentionally generic, so plan to customize them.
Duplicate an existing campaign. If you already have a campaign that works, duplicate it and tailor the copy for a different segment. This is useful when you want to send variations of the same message to distinct audience groups.
Choose recipients with segments
Recipients are defined by segments. A segment is a saved group of people that matches conditions you set — for example, high school students filtered by graduation year.
Segments can also be built using your CRM stages and lead status, so you can target people based on where they sit in your funnel (for example, leads at a particular stage).
If you want to send the same core message to several groups with different wording, duplicate the campaign and change the target segment on each copy.
Configure the sender
Before a campaign can go out, you need a marketing sender email configured (for example, marketing@yourschool.com) along with a display name. Any replies route back to that address. Instructions for configuring a 📄 How do I set up custom email sending from my own domain?
Build the sequence
Campaigns are multi-step sequences made up of three building blocks you can arrange in any order:
Email — sends a message to the recipient.
SMS — sends a text message.
Wait — pauses the sequence for a set interval, then continues automatically. You do not need to trigger the next step manually.
For example, you might send an email, wait three days, then follow up with an SMS.
You can pull in existing email templates rather than writing every email from scratch.
Test a campaign
You can send a test of any campaign to your own address before launching. This is especially useful when you are setting up your first campaign and do not yet have real recipient data in Noto.
Editing a campaign
Open any existing campaign from the Campaigns page to adjust its steps, swap email content, change the segment, or update the sender. Duplicating a campaign before making large changes gives you a safe fallback.
Common questions
I can't find where to apply an email template in the new campaign editor. This is a known area where customers have run into trouble. If the template picker is not behaving as expected inside your campaign, contact Noto support and we will walk through it with you.
Do I need to manually send the next step in a sequence? No. Once a Wait step finishes its interval, the next Email or SMS step sends automatically.
