Segmenting members by session count
Last updated: August 18, 2026
Noto's marketing tools let you build customer segments based on how many sessions a student has attended, then send automated messages when someone enters that segment. This is useful for milestone outreach, loyalty campaigns, and win-back messaging.
This article covers the session-based customer attributes available for segmentation, how the trigger mechanism works, and example campaigns you can build with them.
The session-based attributes you can filter on
Noto's marketing automation includes several customer attributes tied to attendance and enrollment history:
Total sessions attended — a cumulative count of every session where the member was marked "Present."
Sessions attended in last 30 days — a count of sessions where the member was marked "Present" within the past 30 days.
Sessions attended in last 90 days — a count of sessions where the member was marked "Present" within the past 90 days.
Upcoming sessions in 30 days — a count of sessions the member is enrolled in that are scheduled to occur within the next 30 days.
Last attended session date — the date of the member's most recent attended session.
Previously enrolled services — the list of services the member was enrolled in on enrollments that are now inactive.
All session count attributes update as attendance is marked or enrollments change, so segments built on them stay current.
How segment triggers fire
You build a segment using one or more of these attributes (for example, Total sessions attended is greater than or equal to 3), then attach an automation that fires when a customer enters the segment. The message sends the moment the student's session count crosses the threshold you set.
You can find segments on the Segments page and automations on the Triggers page.
Example campaigns
Milestone outreach after a set number of sessions
Create a segment for Total sessions attended is greater than or equal to 3 and attach a welcome-milestone message. When a new student hits their third attended session, they automatically receive a congratulations note, a request for a review, or an invitation to refer a friend. Adjust the threshold to match whatever early milestone matters to your business.
Loyalty and upsell for long-tenured students
Use a higher threshold — for example, Total sessions attended is greater than or equal to 50 — to identify students who have been with you a long time. Trigger a loyalty perk, a personal note from the owner, or an upsell to a more advanced program.
Win-back for previously enrolled students
Use the Previously enrolled services attribute to target customers whose enrollment in a specific service is no longer active. This is useful for re-enrollment campaigns aimed at students who took a break from a particular class or program.
Limits and gotchas
Pending attendance is ignored. A session left in pending state will not count toward
Total sessions attended,Sessions attended in last 30 days, orSessions attended in last 90 daysuntil it is marked attended.
